Madison… Yesterday, Representative Patrick Snyder (R-Weston) voted in favor of a bipartisan bill supported by Governor Tony Evers to fund special education, and return $1.8 billion in surplus to taxpayers. After passing the State Assembly in a bipartisan vote, the bill ultimately failed to pass the State Senate. Rep. Snyder said:

“I am incredibly disappointed in the State Senate for failing to pass this important bill to return to the surplus and fund special education. This bill was the result of negotiations with the Governor to help Wisconsin right now.”

The failure of this legislation will cost:

  • D.C. Everest Area School District: $1,868,003
  • Wausau School District: $2,889,666

Additionally, the bill would have provided immediate economic relief to Wisconsinites by:

  • Exempting tips and overtime from tax, providing more than $230 million in permanent, ongoing tax relief
  • Returning $862 million in surplus rebate payments back to the taxpayers. Residents would have been eligible for a payment up to $300, with married filers eligible to receive up to $600.

Rep. Snyder concluded:

“I am so disappointed that radicals on the left and the right got in the way of the bipartisan compromises that Wisconsinites expect from their government. Our constituents need relief today and now they won’t get it. I will continue fighting to provide relief for taxpayers and permanent solutions for funding education.”
