Ashland, WI— In response to ongoing federal ICE activity in Minnesota, Representative Stroud (D-Ashland), whose district borders Duluth and includes many constituents who work and spend time in Minnesota, released the following statement:

“As the president openly threatens to invoke the Insurrection Act against protesters and deploys federal agents in what appears to be retribution toward Minnesota, I want to be unequivocal: this is not normal and this is not acceptable.

Recent reporting makes clear that federal enforcement actions are harming people indiscriminately, including families, children, and citizens through aggressive tactics that have no place in a civil society. No one, regardless of immigration status, should be treated this way by ICE. These actions go far beyond any sane or rational immigration policy, which we can and should debate, and are instead terrorizing communities while trampling on our fundamental rights.

We cannot allow this behavior by the president or federal agencies to become normalized. I call on my Republican colleagues to hold the leader of their party accountable and to state clearly that this abuse of power is unacceptable. It should not be partisan to demand that our constitutional rights be upheld by our government.”
