MADISON – Today, Governor Tony Evers signed a bill into law that will expand Medicaid to include postpartum women for a full year. Under current law, eligibility for coverage ends 90 days after birth. Over the course of several sessions, the bill has received wide bipartisan support and finally passed with near-unanimous support in both houses.

Representative Lisa Subeck released the following statement:

“After years of work by advocates across the political spectrum, we can finally celebrate this victory for Wisconsinites. Extending Medicaid eligibility for new moms will save lives and improve the health of thousands of families every year.

I am honored to have played a part in this process, and I am thrilled that after all these years I finally had the chance to stand alongside Governor Evers as he signed this historic bill.

Healthy moms lead to healthy babies and healthy families. No new mom should go without healthcare after giving birth, and now they will never need to.”

Rep. Subeck represents the 79th Assembly District and serves as Chair of the Assembly Democratic Caucus.
