MADISON – Today, Chairwoman Nicole Boyd of the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa delivered the 22nd Annual State of the Tribes address before a joint convention of the State Legislature. Representative Lisa Subeck (D-Madison) released the following statement.

“Every year, I am grateful to hear from our tribal leaders in this annual tradition of listening and collaborating, recognizing the injustices endured by Native people, and celebrating the successes of Wisconsin’s sovereign tribal nations.

The State of the Tribes address is not only an opportunity to honor our state’s rich and diverse cultural heritage, but it is also a chance to bring legislators together with our tribal partners and find ways to make Wisconsin a better place for everyone who calls this place home.

From serving in our nation’s armed forces, to driving economic development, and to the steadfast defense of our natural resources, the impact of Wisconsin’s sovereign tribal nations on the past, present, and future of our state cannot be overstated.”

Rep. Subeck represents the 79th Assembly District and serves as Chair of the Assembly Democratic Caucus.
