MILWAUKEE, WI — Representative Sequanna Taylor announced two new bills to help older adults across Wisconsin stay healthy, safe and independent, and highlighted her ongoing support for local senior meal programs in Milwaukee.
The first bill increases funding for home-delivered meals, adding $250,000 in each of the 2025–26 and 2026–27 fiscal years to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services. These meals are a vital lifeline, helping seniors stay nourished and continue living independently.
The second bill provides $450,000 in grants each year to the Wisconsin Institute for Healthy Aging for falls prevention programs. Falls are a leading cause of injuries and loss of independence among older adults. Evidence-based programs have been shown to reduce injuries, improve quality of life and lower long-term health care costs.
“These bills work together to support our seniors’ health and independence,” said Rep. Taylor. “By expanding access to meals and supporting proven fall prevention programs, we can help older adults stay safe, healthy and active in their communities.”
Rep. Taylor is also visiting local senior meal sites to raise awareness and encourage participation/support:
- Elks Lodge, 5555 West Good Hope Rd. – Visited today by Rep. Taylor, community leaders and elected officials
- Daddy’s Soul Food, 754 North 27th Street – Visit scheduled tomorrow at 11:00 a.m.
Residents are welcome to join and help spread the word to their “seasoned citizens,” as Rep. Taylor calls them. “These meal sites are more than food, they are places for connection, safety and community for our seniors,” Rep. Taylor added.
