MADISON, Wis. — Last week, U.S. Border Patrol shot and killed a VA nurse named Alex Pretti, who was peacefully recording and assisting a woman. He was the second U.S. citizen killed by ICE in Minneapolis this January.

Representative Randy Udell (D-47th District) released the following statement:

“As an agency, ICE claims its purpose is public safety. Yet over and over again, they have shown absolute contempt for American citizens and communities. Their agents are breaking into homes without warrants, dragging innocent civilians from cars, terrorizing communities with tear gas, and murdering peaceful observers.

“In Wisconsin, I have cosponsored five bills to restrict ICE activity, including requiring they wear name identification, preventing them from wearing masks to conceal their identities, and restricting them from our schools, childcare centers, and hospitals. So far, Wisconsin’s Republican majority opposes each of these bills.

“ICE officers no longer honor the First, Second, Fourth, Fifth, or Fourteenth Amendments. ICE must be defunded and abolished, and their agents must be held fully accountable under state and federal law.”
