MADISON, Wis. – Last week, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services released guidance regarding upcoming federal changes to Medicaid requirements, which will go into effect in 2027 and will impact BadgerCare enrollees.
Representative Randy Udell (D-47th District) released the following statement:
“Medicaid coverage is vital to keeping healthcare accessible for our kids, our elderly, our neighbors with disabilities, and our workforce. Twenty-two percent of Wisconsinites rely on Medicaid, and our rural hospitals depend on payments from Medicaid coverage to stay open.
“The upcoming federal work requirement changes will add a costly administrative burden to both DHS and Medicaid recipients in order to maintain coverage. Fortunately, our Wisconsin DHS has released guidance as well as an online screening tool to help our BadgerCare recipients understand the impacts of these new requirements.
“For anyone uncertain about qualifying exemptions or the proper methods to track and report work hours, utilizing our Department of Health Services’ screening tool will give you the most accurate information to help maintain your healthcare coverage.”
