MADISON – Wisconsin Legislative Democrats recently introduced the “Teaching is a Profession” package of bills to support and retain quality educators in Wisconsin schools. Rep. Robyn Vining (D-Wauwatosa) co-sponsored several of these bills, and released the following statement:

I am the daughter of a public school teacher, the wife of a professor, and the grateful mother of two grown children who benefitted tremendously from their lifetime of public school teachers. I have seen the care and dedication teachers bring to this world, and the impact they make on human lives, and our communities.

“I am proud to co-sponsor six bills in the ‘Teaching is a Profession’ bill package that would support our teachers and make it easier for those interested in pursuing a career as a teacher. I am a co-sponsor of the following bills:

  • Minimum salary for all public school teachers (LRB-6261)
  • Grants for those pursuing a career in teaching (LRB-4254)
  • Compensation for time spent on nonclassroom services (LRB-6173)
  • Grants to school districts to pay student teachers an hourly wage (LRB-6172)
  • Longevity bonuses for teachers (LRB-4488)
  • Paid preparation time for teachers (LRB-4489)

Teachers play a unique and special role in each child’s development, education, and childhood, and they are integral to shaping our communities, and Wisconsin’s future. Our teachers deserve to be paid what they’re worth, and they deserve respect and appreciation. I look forward to working with my colleagues to give teachers the appreciation and compensation they deserve so we can move Wisconsin education forward, together.”

Rep. Vining represents the 13th Assembly District, which includes Elm Grove, and parts of Wauwatosa and Brookfield. For more information visit Rep. Vining’s website here.
