WAUWATOSA – Today Governor Tony Evers signed 2025 Senate Bill 23 into law, which expands postpartum Medicaid coverage from 60 days to one year. Rep. Robyn Vining (D-Wauwatosa) attended the bill signing ceremony at Children’s Wisconsin in Wauwatosa and released the following statement:

“Today is an important day for Wisconsin women, children, and families. Postpartum Medicaid expansion will save lives, support mental health, reduce racial disparities in maternal healthcare, and improve the lives of Wisconsin’s moms and babies.

Wisconsin was one of only two states that had failed to pass postpartum Medicaid expansion, but that changed today. Wisconsin women deserve access to quality and affordable healthcare–including postpartum care–and this bill is a win.

“I commend Governor Evers for signing this bill into law, and I want to thank every advocate across Wisconsin who fought for the healthcare that women deserve. Thank you for fighting a fight worth fighting, and not giving up until you won.

“It shouldn’t have taken this long to pass legislation that saves women’s lives, but I am glad we could find common ground for the common good so we can move Wisconsin forward, together.”

Rep. Vining represents the 13th Assembly District, which includes Elm Grove, and parts of Wauwatosa and Brookfield. For more information visit Rep. Vining’s website here.
