Assembly Speaker Robin Vos released the following statement after The Wisconsin Elections Commission announced today its decision to refer for criminal prosecution a number of Recall Vos petition collectors to the Racine County District Attorney. The decision comes after Vos for Assembly submitted a verified complaint to the Wisconsin Elections Commission in 2024 alleging certain circulators unlawfully listed fake addresses and others fraudulently listed names of circulators who signed affidavits stating they never signed the petition. The Elections Commission determined there was probable cause for prosecution in these circumstances (letter from Commission attached):

“While it’s disappointing that this referral took so long to make, I am glad that the Commission agreed that there were likely laws broken during these ridiculous recall attempts in 2024. I hope the Racine County DA moves quickly to prosecute these individuals. These prosecutions should be a high priority for everyone who cares about election security.

“This is just another example of how these recall attempts were a complete waste of time and money when we hold regularly scheduled elections every two years.”
