Congressman Tom Tiffany to participate; state legislators and community organizations invited to discuss Wisconsin energy policy and what comes next

WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. — Residents, landowners, local officials, and community leaders are invited to attend a Wisconsin Energy Policy Town Hall on Friday, September 18, at 6:00 p.m. in the Kilimanjaro Room at the Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells. Doors will open at 5:00 p.m.

The town hall will focus on Wisconsin energy policy and the proposed 765-kV transmission line, including what affected communities and landowners can expect as the proposal moves forward.

Congressman Tom Tiffany will participate in the event. Senator Sarah Keyeski, Representative Tony Kurtz have confirmed their attendance. Representative Karen DeSanto has also been invited to participate. Their participation brings together state and federal policymakers to share their positions and concerns surrounding the proposed transmission project.

Presentations will include No 765 Line, Inc., with additional participation from Lake Wisconsin Land and Community Alliance, Inc. and CAM 765, Inc. The event will be moderated by Sauk County Board Chair Tim McCumber.

“This issue has brought together landowners, farmers, local officials, legislators and community organizations who have serious questions about the need for these massive transmission lines, where they would be located, and what they would mean for Wisconsin communities for generations,” McCumber said. “People deserve an opportunity to hear directly from policymakers and from the organizations that have been working on this issue.”

McCumber emphasized that the town hall is not sponsored by Sauk County or the Sauk County Board. “I want to be very clear that this is not a County-sponsored event,” McCumber said. “I became involved because people asked me to help bring policymakers and the 765 groups together. As County Board Chair, I also believe it is important to be completely transparent about that involvement.”

Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley is unavailable for the September 18 event. Crowley has issued a statement opposing the proposed transmission lines, and organizers hope to provide additional information regarding a future opportunity for residents to hear from him.

McCumber said the growing involvement of elected officials demonstrates that the proposed transmission project deserves serious public scrutiny.

“It is significant that elected officials are listening to the concerns being raised by the people who would live, farm and operate businesses alongside this infrastructure,” McCumber said. “Wisconsin’s energy future is an important public-policy discussion, but decisions of this magnitude cannot lose sight of the people, farms and communities that will bear the consequences.”

The event is intended to provide information about Wisconsin energy policy, the proposed 765-kV transmission project, and the next steps available to citizens and communities seeking to make their voices heard.
