GREEN BAY, Wis. — Former Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt today announced that he is running for Mayor of Green Bay.
“Green Bay needs leadership that shows up, listens, and gets the work done,” Schmitt said. “I am running because I love this city, and because residents, businesses, and city employees deserve clearer priorities, better service, and real accountability from City Hall.”
Schmitt served as mayor for 16 years. During that time, Green Bay advanced CityDeck, the Nicolet Bank headquarters, the Schreiber Foods headquarters and global technology center, the KI Convention Center expansion, and the Metreau Apartments.
“That work was never about one person,” Schmitt said. “It took residents, businesses, nonprofits, city staff, and elected officials working together to move Green Bay forward. That is the kind of practical, accountable leadership this city needs now.”

Schmitt identified five initial priorities: expanding paths to homeownership; a humane and effective response to homelessness; City Hall that works for residents; safe, strong neighborhoods; and greater opportunity for students, workers, families, and local employers.
“Green Bay has changed, and the work ahead is different from the work we have already done,” Schmitt said. “I will listen to the people closest to each problem, be honest about what the city can do, and bring people together to get results.”
