Lawmaker and Former Law Enforcement Officer Says Schutt’s the Right Pick for Public Safety

Clinton, WI: Former State Representative Ellen Schutt continues to build momentum in her campaign for State Senate, having earned the endorsement of State Senator Van Wanggaard.

Throughout his career, Wanggaard represented the communities in Racine and Kenosha Counties that are now included in the district Schutt is running to represent.

Before serving in the legislature, Wanggaard spent nearly three decades in law enforcement with the Racine Police Department. In the State Senate, he has been a leading advocate for policies that support law enforcement and strengthen public safety across Wisconsin.

“Ellen will be a great addition to the Senate,” said Wanggaard. “Over the past several years, I have come to know Ellen on both a personal and professional level and can assure you she will represent everyone in the district well.”

In 2023, Schutt and Wanggaard worked together on legislation to strengthen a school safety grant program that helps schools develop interactive digital maps for first responders to use during emergencies.

“As a mom, I think every day about the kind of communities we’re creating for our kids to grow up in,” Schutt said. “Parents deserve to know their children are safe at school and in their neighborhoods. Senator Wanggaard has spent decades protecting Wisconsin communities as a law enforcement officer and in the State Senate. I’m grateful for his support.”

Wanggaard joins Assembly Majority Leader Tyler August in supporting Schutt, signaling growing support from respected conservative leaders across southeastern Wisconsin.
