Today, the Republican-created Special Committee on Oversight of the Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) held another public hearing to hear testimony from Attorney General Josh Kaul.
The two Democratic members of the Committee, Senator Jodi Habush Sinykin (D-Whitefish Bay) and Senator Melissa Ratcliff (D-Cottage Grove) released the following statement:
“After hours of testimony over the course of these hearings, it remains clear that this committee has failed to present credible evidence justifying the significant time and taxpayer resources devoted to this Republican farce. There has not been one bit of evidence that the work of these legal fellows has been influenced by special interests, but rather, as underscored by AG Kaul and subject matter expert, Dr. Paul Nolette, these legal fellows have worked on “bread and butter” environmental regulation enforcement.
“Wisconsinites are asking Legislators to address public safety, affordability, workforce challenges, and the protection of our environment. We remain focused on how to deliver real results and taxpayer dollars should not be used to manufacture controversy for political gain.”
“The people of Wisconsin deserve accountability and public trust grounded in facts — not distraction.”
“We appreciate AG Kaul appearing before the committee today to answer questions directly and provide clarity about the work of the Wisconsin DOJ. His testimony reaffirmed the important role the Department plays in protecting Wisconsin’s air, land, and water, enforcing our laws, and serving communities across our state. “
