Madison, WI – Senator Chris Larson, the ranking Democrat on the Senate Education Committee, offered this statement of support for Dr. Jill Underly’s State of Education address.
“Guaranteeing a quality public education for every child is the bedrock of a functional democracy. As our country is being corroded from within by malicious greed, it is more important than ever that we ensure that our kids are equipped with the knowledge they need to lead us out of the mess we are in.
“I appreciate Dr. Underly calling out what is wrong and what is needed. As she put it, ‘Are we pulling the ladder behind us? Or are we holding it steady for the next generation?’
“Wisconsin has a better history that can guide us as we rededicate ourselves to the future. The deliberate underfunding of our public schools by Republicans must end.
“I will continue to work to ensure every child has a quality public education, that public dollars ensure public accountability, and that we hold the ladder steady for the next generation to achieve a great life of opportunity in Wisconsin.”
