Madison, Wisc. – State Senator Jeff Smith (D-Eau Claire) released the following statement in response to Governor Tony Evers’ final State of the State address:
“Governor Tony Evers has offered steady leadership during seven tumultuous years. The Governor is a man of integrity who has cared deeply about doing the right thing for the future of Wisconsin.
“Our Chippewa Valley communities have been continually ignored by Republicans, despite the Governor’s steadfast dedication to uplifting our region.
“Politics is a team sport though. PFAS contaminating our drinking water, letting our community falter from the collapse of a major hospital system, child care costs slated to skyrocket this summer, falling short to deliver on promises for public education funding and failing some of our most vulnerable veterans after letting Klein Hall close are tragedies Chippewa Valley Republicans will have to answer for despite the Governor’s best efforts.
“Evers has a lot to be proud of during his tenure as our Governor. His veto pen has been a godsend for Wisconsin. As we look to this last year with Governor Evers at the helm, there is so much left to do for lowering prices for Wisconsin families, and the Governor isn’t ready to give up yet. He’s right – we can’t lose focus just because it’s an election year.”
