GREEN BAY, WI. — Senator Jamie Wall applauded today’s $17.1 billion multistate settlement with Meta Platforms, Inc., over the harm the company’s products have done to children.
The settlement requires Meta to implement new child safety measures for Instagram and Facebook, including daily time limits, nighttime restrictions, fewer notifications during school hours, stronger age verification, and more.
Wisconsin could receive up to $313 million from the settlement.
“I’m glad to see social media companies being held accountable,” said Senator Wall. “I was a lead author on the SAFE Kids Act because we need to do more to protect our kids online.”

The 2025 SAFE Kids Act would have required social media platforms to verify users’ ages, ban targeted advertising to minors, limit algorithm-driven content recommendations, and prohibit the collection or sale of children’s data.
“This settlement is a good step, but our work is far from done,” Wall said. “Every kid deserves a childhood that isn’t dominated by an algorithm.”
