In his third ad, U.S. Rep. Bryan Steil, R-Janesville, says he’s “leading the charge to ban members of Congress from trading stocks.”
According to AdIMpact, Steil has reserved $3.4 million in ads between Aug. 11 and the November election. Overall. Steil and those backing him have laid down $5.9 million, compared to the just more than $3 million from Dem Mitchell Berman and those supporting the emergency room nurse. The bulk of that is the $2.7 million the House Majority PAC has scheduled to run over the closing weeks of the race.
In Steil’s new 30-second spot, which is running in the Milwaukee media market, the congressman says “You deserve a Congress you can trust, that’s working for you.”
The spot highlights news reports about Steil’s Stop Insider Trading Act, which would bar members of Congress and immediate family members from buying new individual stocks. It also would require members to provide notice when they sell stock. But it allows for trading other securities and does not require members to divest of their current holdings.
“If politicians want to trade stocks, go to Wall Street. My job is to serve you. We’re going to cut taxes, lower costs and improve your healthcare,” Steil says.
