Brookfield, WI — Wes Sylla, an attorney and local school board member, today announced his candidacy for the open 13th Assembly District seat in the Wisconsin State Assembly.

The seat became open after State Representative Robyn Vining announced last summer that she would run for the 5th State Senate District, creating an opportunity for continued leadership in Brookfield, Elm Grove, and Wauwatosa.

“Our community deserves leadership that delivers real results for families,” Sylla said. “I’ll be listening, learning, and working every day to move our district forward.”

Sylla brings experience in both public service and the law. As a local school board member, he has worked collaboratively on budgets, facility planning, and student needs, making tough decisions with students and the community in mind. As an attorney, he has focused on fairness, accountability, and practical problem-solving — skills he says are needed in Madison.

As a husband and father of three, Sylla said public policy is deeply personal. He highlighted his family’s experience navigating complicated pregnancies with his spouse as a defining reason for his commitment to protecting access to health care and personal medical decision-making.

“No politician belongs in the exam room with a patient and their doctor,” Sylla said. “Families need the freedom to make complex, deeply personal medical decisions without political interference.”

Sylla said his campaign will focus on:

Strengthening local schools so every child has the opportunity to succeed

Making life more affordable, including childcare, health care, and housing

Protecting reproductive rights and democracy so you always have a say

“With this seat open, we have an opportunity to ensure our district’s priorities and values continue to be represented in Madison,” Sylla said.

The campaign will kick off with an upcoming public event at the Wauwatosa Public Library.
