WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. House of Representatives today passed the Stop Insider Trading Act, legislation that would prohibit Members of Congress from trading individual stocks while serving in office. U.S. Representative Derrick Van Orden voted in support of the bill, reaffirming his commitment to accountability and transparency in Washington.
Rep. Van Orden has never bought or sold a single stock and has long supported efforts to ensure Members of Congress are held to the highest ethical standards.
“Today I voted to ban congressional stock trading. I’ve never bought or sold a single stock because serving the American people should never be about personal financial gain,” said Van Orden. “Members of Congress should not be able to use their position of power to profit.”
The legislation passed the House despite opposition from 198 House Democrats, who voted against the measure to prevent Members of Congress from trading stocks while in office.
