WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Scott Fitzgerald (WI-05) issued the following statements in response to the passage of two critical pieces of legislation this week to lower costs for Wisconsinites: the Homeowner Energy Freedom Act and the Home Appliance Protection and Affordability Act.

On the Homeowner Energy Freedom Act:

“Washington should not be using taxpayer dollars as a bargaining chip to pressure state and local governments into adopting costly energy mandates that drive up the price of a new home,” said Congressman Fitzgerald. “This bill rolls back federal incentives that inflate construction costs, strain housing supply, and make it harder for families to achieve homeownership. We should be focused on lowering housing costs, not implementing leftist climate regulations that put the American Dream of homeownership further out of reach.”

On the Home Appliance Protection and Affordability Act:

“Families deserve the freedom to choose the appliances that work best for their homes and their budgets,” said Congressman Fitzgerald. “Under the Biden Administration, federal regulators pushed far-left energy efficiency standards that increased upfront costs and limited consumer options without delivering meaningful savings. This legislation restores balance by ensuring energy standards are practical, affordable, and truly benefit hardworking households.”
