(Washington, D.C.) – Congressman Glenn Grothman (R-WI) released the following statement after U.S. forces carried out a targeted operation to remove Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro, marking a significant success in the fight against international drug trafficking and narco-terrorism linked to the Maduro regime:
“This operation is a powerful reminder of what can be accomplished when the United States takes the threat of narco-terrorism seriously,” said Congressman Grothman. “It is nothing short of a miracle that no U.S. troops were killed, and we owe an enormous debt of gratitude to the brave men and women who carried out this mission with precision and professionalism.
“For far too long, American presidents have stood by while drug cartels and hostile regimes flooded our country with deadly narcotics. I have always wondered why leaders allowed so many Americans to die from drug overdoses each year without taking meaningful action to stop it.
“The human cost is staggering. Every year, more Americans die from drug overdoses than were killed during the entire Vietnam War – nearly twice as many. That level of loss is unacceptable, and ignoring it is no longer an option.
“Finally, we have a president who cares about the overdose crisis devastating families and communities across this country and is willing to confront the source of the problem. President Trump’s actions send a clear message that the United States will no longer tolerate regimes that profit from poisoning our people.
“It has been exhilarating to see the outpouring of support for President Trump’s leadership from Venezuelans around the world. Their response shows that standing up to corruption, tyranny, and drug trafficking matters – not only for the safety of Americans, but for freedom-loving people everywhere.”
