WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Derrick Van Orden is urging Midcontinent Grid Solutions to reconsider the current proposed routes for the BECI 765-kV Transmission Line following concerns raised by Wisconsin landowners, farmers, and communities who would be directly impacted by the project.
“I have heard directly from landowners, farmers, and communities who would be impacted by the proposed BECI 765-kV Transmission Line, and their concerns are clear,” said Congressman Van Orden. “I am urging Midcontinent Grid Solutions to listen to my constituents and review alternative routes, cost options, and construction methods that utilize existing utility, highway, and railroad corridors before impacting our lands in the Driftless Area.”
The proposed transmission corridor would have significant impacts on affected property owners, including potential easement restrictions, impacts to agricultural operations, changes to property values, and environmental concerns.
Van Orden also raised concerns about the potential impact of construction on groundwater and called for sufficient studies to be conducted before the project moves forward.

The Driftless Area is a unique landscape that serves as an important part of Wisconsin’s agricultural and tourism economies. Van Orden is urging Midcontinent Grid Solutions to consider alternatives that minimize impacts to private property, agriculture, groundwater, and the region’s unique landscape.
