U.S. Rep. Derrick Van Orden, R-Prairie du Chien, launched a new TV ad this week knocking Dem rival Rebecca Cooke as a “phony.”
According to AdImpact, Van Orden has laid down $3 million in reservations since the Aug. 11 primary. The new spot so far has aired in the La Crosse-Eau Claire and Wausau markets.
The ad opens with Van Orden asking viewers if they remember a spot Cooke ran saying she’s “somewhere in the middle.” Van Orden says the truth is she’s a “full-time political consultant that occasionally waits a table, made her living running campaigns for radical defund the police politicians, and she even got an F from the NRA.” The screen shows an image of Cooke next to former Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes.
Van Orden calls Cooke a “radical” before closing the spot, “I’m Derek Van Orden, a straight shooter, retired Navy SEAL, and I approve this message.”
