(Milwaukee, January 7th, 2026)—What happened today in Minneapolis, where a federal immigration (ICE) agent killed a person during a massive enforcement operation, is criminal, unconscionable, and outrageous. This is not isolated or accidental. This is the human cost of an aggressive, militarized immigration strategy being unleashed in our neighborhoods, fueled by the politics of racism and corporate greed, not public safety.

Communities are living in fear under this so‑called “largest enforcement operation ever,” with thousands of agents deployed in Minnesota. Instead of de‑escalating, ICE brought guns, armored vehicles, and violence into everyday life. People are being terrorized in their homes, workplaces, and on the streets.

“Let’s be clear,” said Christine Neumann-Ortiz, Executive Director of Voces de la Frontera. “ICE’s presence in Minneapolis has escalated into chaos and brutality. Communities deserve security, not rounding up their neighbors at gunpoint. No one should be shot in their own neighborhood by federal agents. No operation built on fearmongering or racial profiling is legitimate. This is state-sponsored violence, not public safety. It’s a war on immigrant communities and a gross misuse of public dollars. This escalation of violent mass deportation and militarization at home and abroad must stop now.”

We stand in solidarity with the people of Minnesota and with our partner immigration rights organizations in the state, including Unidos MN.

Voces de la Frontera demands:

  • Immediate transparency and independent investigation into today’s shooting.
  • An end to militarized raids and discriminatory enforcement tactics in our cities.
  • Federal accountability for every act of violence and intimidation used against immigrant families.
  • Passage of humane immigration reform.
