(Waukesha, WI) – Beginning Monday, June 29, members of the public visiting the Waukesha County Courthouse will need to enter through a temporary entrance located on the eastside of the courthouse at the Administration Center.

Visitors are encouraged to allow extra time, watch for posted signage, and follow staff directions when arriving at the courthouse. Security screening will be in place at the temporary entrance.

“This project represents a major investment in the future of Waukesha County,” Department of Public Works Director Allison Bussler said. “We have made significant progress over the past few years, and each step brings us closer to the finish line. When complete, this remodeled courthouse will better serve the public, improve safety and security, and provide a more functional space for everyone who relies on this building,” Bussler added.

The temporary entry change is part of Waukesha County’s ongoing four-year courthouse modernization effort, which will add 8,000 square feet to the public entrance lobby.

The Waukesha County Courthouse, originally built in 1959, is being updated to better serve residents now and for generations to come. The project includes a new public entrance, upgraded interior security area and lobby, new County boardroom, 11 new courtrooms, new offices for the District Attorney, and three-way separation within the courthouse for staff, the public, and prisoners, helping to lower the risk of confrontations.

About the Waukesha County Courthouse renovation project: The total cost of Phase II is estimated at approximately $114 million. Construction of the secure courts tower marked the first step of the overall project. In 2023, the County moved into the second phase, which focuses on remodeling the courthouse itself. That work is expected to continue through 2027.
