Tony Evers today delivered his weekly radio address in celebration of the Fourth of July and the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Gov. Evers also proclaimed July 4, 2026, as America 250, in accordance with national observances. A transcript of Gov. Evers’ radio address is available below. Hey there, folks. Governor Tony Evers here, wishing you a very happy Fourth of July. And this Fourth of July is extra special because this year, we are celebrating America’s 250th birthday. 250 years ago, our founding fathers signed the Declaration of Independence, laying forth the guiding principles of a new nation. They declared that all men are created equal, and as such, have inalienable rights, including to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, and that government derives its powers from the consent of the governed. So, as we celebrate America 250, this is an opportunity to reflect upon the values we share regardless of who we are, where we live, or who we vote for, and the freedoms we enjoy that so many have fought and died to protect. And we’re reminded that there is far more that unites us than divides us, as Americans and as Wisconsinites. Folks, we still have much work to do toward delivering on the promise of America and to ensure this grand experiment continues for future generations, and that includes protecting and defending the basic principles of our democracy that have defined our country for centuries. Principles like the peaceful and respectful transfer of power and the fundamental right to cast a ballot—functions that, especially today, must not be taken for granted. So, whether you’re firing up the barbecue, hitting the water, or joining a parade, I hope you take a moment to reflect on these values we share and the work we must do ahead to form a more perfect union as our Constitution demands. With that, have a happy and safe Fourth of July, Wisconsin! And happy 250th, America! Take care, folks. |
