On Sunday, families across Wisconsin will celebrate Father’s Day. It’s a chance to recognize the dads, grandfathers, and father figures who are helping to raise the next generation.
Hi, I’m State Senator Dan Feyen.
One of the biggest challenges facing young families is finding affordable and reliable childcare. That’s why this past session, Republicans have championed reforms that increase access to childcare and provide direct relief to parents.
We’ve expanded the Wisconsin Shares program so more families can receive assistance with childcare costs, putting those dollars directly into parents’ hands. We’ve passed reforms to create additional childcare slots by expanding opportunities within the workforce and reducing unnecessary red tape that limits providers’ ability to serve families. And the best part? We were able to find sustainable, long-term solutions rather than making temporary, pandemic-era programs permanent.
Legislative Republicans continue to encourage employers to take innovative approaches in what they do, and childcare is no different. Just this week, Belmark in De Pere broke ground on a new Family Center that will provide childcare services for employees. This is the first project in Wisconsin that is utilizing the newly modified WEDC Business Development Tax Credit, a bill I was proud to lead. This is good for our Wisconsin economy AND Wisconsin families. It’s a win-win.
This weekend, join me in thanking the dads who work hard every day to support their families. They deserve smart, responsible policies that make raising a family a little easier and a little more affordable. That’s why we’ll always keep pursuing reforms that put parents first.
Happy Father’s Day!
