When you go to the polls on November 3rd, one of the three constitutional amendments that will be on your ballot will ask you whether you believe the government should not be able to discriminate against someone because of an immutable characteristic, like sex or ethnicity.
Hi, I’m State Senator Dan Feyen.
This isn’t a trick question: the government be prohibited from treating someone differently based on something they cannot control.
If approved by voters, this would be enshrined in our constitution. State government, as well as public institutions like public schools, the UW System, technical colleges, and municipalities, would be prohibited from discriminating based upon your characteristics.
That is not a controversial idea.
Whether you’re a Republican, Democrat, independent, Black, white, male or female, the government should play by the same rules for everyone. That’s why I voted YES to put this question on your ballot this November when it came before the state Senate.
So, if you don’t think the government should give preferential treatment based on your characteristics, make sure you vote when you see this question on your ballot November 3rd.
Equal treatment under the law shouldn’t depend on which political party is in power. It should be a constitutional guarantee.
