Hi, this is Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu.
This week, I introduced Senate Bills 1 and 995, which together will provide an income tax rebate of $1,000 to hardworking taxpayers across our state.
Right now, Wisconsin has a projected $2.5 billion surplus. That surplus means one thing: our state government is taxing you and your family too much. So, we’re going to give you your money back.
As I travel across my district and the state, I’ve heard how rising prices are stretching family budgets. Groceries, school supplies, cars, and rent have all gotten more expensive. To make things worse, Governor Evers’ 400-year veto has sent property tax bills through the roof. The best way we can help your family address rising costs and combat the governor’s irresponsible veto is to put some more money in your pocket.
So next week, Senate Republicans plan to approve rebate checks of $1,000 for married-joint filers and $500 rebates for everyone else. That’s on top of the $1.5 billion in tax relief already approved during the budget this session. This one-time rebate will get the state’s surplus out of Madison and into your pocket. Because you know best how to spend your hard-earned money, not the state government.
