MADISON, Wis. — Yesterday, Nate Silver’s FLIPR 2026 House Forecast ranked WI-01 the fourth most competitive House race in the United States. Wisconsin’s First Congressional District has not had a Democratic representative in over thirty years, and Wisconsin’s Republican gerrymandered maps, considered one of the most extreme gerrymanders in the United States, had made the district even more favorable to Republicans for decades.
“Republicans are scrambling to save Bryan Steil because for the first time in his political career, he is forced to answer for rubber-stamping failed economic policies and a reckless war abroad—and he has no good answers to give,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin spokesperson Rachel La Due. “Wisconsin Democrats have spent decades building a sustained grassroots resistance to Republicans’ extreme and cost-raising policies, even in the face of some of the most gerrymandered maps in the country, and next Tuesday will prove more powerful than any of Steil’s billionaire donors dumping money into his failing campaign.”
