MILWAUKEE—This Independence Day, the national spotlight shines directly on the Badger State. As an active, state-appointed partner of the national U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission, the Wisconsin America250 Commission is pleased to spotlight Milwaukee’s Summerfest as an official anchor location for America’s Block Party!
On Saturday, July 4, 2026, Henry Maier Festival Park will transform into a unified epicenter of history, music, and community impact, showcasing Wisconsin’s role in the American story.
“Our goal for 2026 is to work hand-in-hand with our local communities, historical sites, and national partners to make the 250th a local celebration,” says Christopher Kolakowski, Chair for the Wisconsin America250 Commission. “By supporting America’s Block Party at Summerfest, we are highlighting the heart of the Midwest and asking our residents: “What does the 250th birthday mean to your community, and what does it mean to you? It’s an incredible platform to tell Wisconsin’s piece of the American story.”
A Historic Venue for A Historic Milestone
Summerfest, historically celebrated as “The World’s Largest Music Festival,” is the perfect canvas to showcase this monumental event. Spanning 75 acres of pristine lakefront property, the festival park itself tells a deeply American story of transformation. What was once a decommissioned Cold War Nike missile site in the late 1960s was permanently reclaimed by the city of Milwaukee as a public park dedicated to joy, music, and democratic gathering.
For decades, Summerfest has stood as a crown jewel of Wisconsin culture. It serves as our collective exhale after brutal Midwestern winters, bringing families together on the concrete pathways of Lake Michigan to enjoy live music, local vendors, and a shared spirit.
The Heart of Giving 4th: Philanthropy in Our DNA
This year, the Wisconsin America250th Commission is proud to support the national rollout of Giving 4th. Spearheaded by the America250 commission, Giving 4th is a nationwide movement to permanently establish July 4th as a new national day of charitable giving and community impact.
This push perfectly mirrors the foundational pillars of Summerfest’s history. For over 50 years, Summerfest has run on a model of donations to the community at the gate. Leaning into the Giving 4th campaign is the ultimate opportunity to elevate Wisconsin’s deep-rooted dedication to mutual aid on a grander national stage.
