MILWAUKEE, WI – Yesterday, the Milwaukee Courier announced Wisconsin Black Democrats’ candidate questionnaire for candidates for Governor and others seeking their party’s nomination for the November ballot. “Since 2018, Black voters in Wisconsin have been pivotal to every Democratic win — electing Governor Evers, flipping the Supreme Court, and now giving Democrats the chance at a Democratic trifecta,” said Nick Truog, the Black Caucus Chair for Wisconsin Democrats.
This comes following last month’s Democratic Party of Wisconsin State Convention, where the Caucus unanimously adopted the Wisconsin Legislative Black Caucus’ Policy Agenda as their platform, reflecting urgent demands for economic progress and equity across the state. The platform addresses seven key areas concerning the Black community: affordable housing and protecting renters, education and literacy, economic opportunity, healthcare and mental health, criminal justice reform, democracy and civic engagement, and environmental and infrastructure needs.

As Democrats rally for a Democratic Trifecta, electing a new Governor and majorities in both legislative chambers, Truog says that, “Winning elections means nothing if it doesn’t translate to meaningful change. Black voters must have the chance to hear during the primary how candidates will fight for them starting on day one with their commitments on paper. Like other communities across our state, we’re desperate for economic change, and we want it now.”
Candidates who commit to support the caucus policy platform and outline how they will use their elected office to deliver results will receive a public certification ahead of the August 11th primary election. Wisconsin Black Democrats are also cosponsoring a Democratic candidate town hall for Governor this Tuesday, July 7th at 6 pm at the Black Business Hub in Madison hosted and moderated by the Blacks for Political and Social Action of Dane County.
