MADISON – Voters delivered a transformative victory for clean energy, safe drinking water, and democracy by electing David Crowley as governor and winning full pro-conservation control of both the State Senate and State Assembly.
Combined with new pro-conservation legislative majorities, the election opens an unprecedented era for environmental progress, affordable clean energy, and voting rights protections across the state.
Wisconsin Conservation Voters Executive Director Kerry Schumann had this to say on the historic night:
“Last night, Wisconsinites made history. By electing David Crowley as our next governor alongside full pro-conservation control of the State Legislature, voters sent an unmistakable message that we want bold action on climate, safe drinking water for every community, and a democracy that belongs to everyone.
David Crowley has proven throughout his career that he knows how to tackle complex public health and environmental challenges while delivering real results for working families. With pro-conservation leadership guiding both the executive branch and the legislature, we finally have the mandate to make permanent, historic gains for Wisconsin and secure a brighter, cleaner future for ourselves and future generations.
Together, we are ready to move forward by expanding clean energy to lower household utility bills, protecting our drinking water from corporate polluters, and strengthening the freedom to vote so every voice is heard. This victory belongs to the dedicated voters, volunteers, and coalition partners across Wisconsin who organized endlessly to build a brighter, cleaner, and more equitable future. The work begins today.”
Wisconsin Conservation Voter IEC invested more than $3.17 million to mobilize voters across the state, knocking on over 160,000 doors, sending 38 pieces of direct mail, running digital ads across the state, and sending nearly 12,000 handwritten volunteer postcards in key legislative districts to secure this pro-conservation trifecta that will lower living costs, regulate data centers, and deliver clean water and clean energy for all Wisconsinites.
With pro-conservation champions leading both the Capitol and the governor’s office, Wisconsin Conservation Voters will focus its immediate efforts on transitioning the state to clean energy to lower utility bills, protect drinking water, and safeguard ballot access for all eligible voters.
