MADISON, WI — Community members, health professionals, students, policymakers, and scientists will gather March 5–6 for the annual  conference, hosted by the Wisconsin Environmental Health Network (WEHN). Held at the University of Wisconsin Madison Arboretum, the event will explore how environmental conditions, from toxic chemical exposures to climate change, shape human health and everyday life.

The conference opens with a free public lecture on Thursday, March 5, from 6:30–8:00 pm, featuring internationally recognized clinician-scientist Bruce Lanphear, MD, MPH of Simon Fraser University. His talk, The End of Fluoridation? A New Look at a Public Health Experiment, will examine the history, science, and ethics of water fluoridation and invite community dialogue about its future.

The full conference takes place Friday, March 6, from 12:30–6:30 pm, offered both in person and virtually. Featured speakers include:

  • Bruce Lanphear, MD, MPH — Collateral Damage: Exposing the Hidden Toll of Toxic Chemicals
  • Tamarra James-Todd, MPH, PhD — Regulatory Deficiencies for Phthalates and Toxins in Beauty Products and Health Disparities
  • Jonathan Patz, MD, MPH — Climate Change: Where Can We Make a Difference in Changing Times

panel of Wisconsin community organizers will highlight local environmental health challenges, grassroots solutions, and opportunities for public engagement.

“Environmental exposures affect every aspect of our health, from the air we breathe to the products we use,” conference organizers said. “This event connects cutting-edge science with community voices to inspire informed action.”

Continuing education credits will be available for eligible professionals.
