Madison, WI – Wisconsin Family Action (WFA) applauds today’s decision by the United States Supreme Court in Little v. Hecox, affirming the constitutionality of Idaho’s Fairness in Women’s Sports Act and recognizing the important state interest in protecting fairness and equal athletic opportunities for women and girls.
Wisconsin Family Action proudly joined an amicus brief urging the Court to uphold Idaho’s law. Today’s decision is a significant victory for female athletes across the nation and reaffirms that states have the authority to preserve fair competition by maintaining separate athletic competitions based on biological sex.
“This is a tremendous victory for women and girls. No girl should ever have to worry about losing athletic scholarships or a spot on a team due to being forced to compete against a biological male,” said Daniel Degner, President of Wisconsin Family Action. “For decades, female athletes have worked tirelessly to earn opportunities through Title IX and other protections. Today’s decision recognizes that state’s have a right to preserve separate women’s athletic protects fairness that female athletes deserve.”
The decision also underscores the need for Wisconsin to act.
Earlier this year, the Wisconsin Legislature passed Assembly Bill 100 (K-12) and Assembly Bill 102 (Colleges and Universities) to save women’s sports. Although Governor Tony Evers vetoed those measures, today’s decision makes clear that states have both the authority and the responsibility to safeguard competitive fairness for female athletes.
“Wisconsin should not lag behind other states in protecting opportunities for women and girls,” Degner continued. “Governor Evers sided with radical transgender ideology over common sense legislation that reflected the will of the people.
Wisconsin Congressman and candidate for Governor, Tom Tiffany has stated that he would sign this legislation into law if elected in November.
Degner claimed, “Now is the time for Wisconsin to elect a leader like Tom Tiffany who will stand up for our girls by saving women’s sports and make the will of the people the law of the land.
