MADISON – Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce (WMC) – the combined state chamber and manufacturers’ association – opened nominations for its annual Wisconsin Business Friend of the Environment Awards Program on Wednesday as a nod to Earth Day. The program, sponsored by WM, seeks to demonstrate to state policymakers and the public that Wisconsin businesses are leading the way in sound environmental practices.

The Business Friend of the Environment Awards celebrate companies that have implemented impactful environmental practices such as improving energy efficiency, reducing waste and emissions, conserving natural resources, and developing sustainable products or processes. Award recipients exemplify how environmental responsibility and business success can go hand in hand.

“Wisconsin businesses understand the inherent value of responsible environmental practices,” said Adam Jordahl, WMC’s Director of Environmental & Energy Policy. “WMC is proud to recognize companies that are making a meaningful difference for their communities, their employees, and the state.”

Nominations are open to the public. Private companies of all industries that demonstrate sound environmental leadership are encouraged to self-nominate. Eligible applicants must be headquartered or have significant operations in Wisconsin. Applicants must demonstrate a significant improvement they have undertaken or completed in the 2025 calendar year in sustainability, environmental stewardship, or environmental innovation.

“For nearly four decades, this program has shown how business leaders have gone above and beyond industry standards or regulatory requirements,” continued Jordahl. “Thank you to WM for continuing to sponsor this longstanding award.”

The winners of the 36th Annual Business Friend of the Environment Awards will be selected by a panel of independent judges representing the business community, government, and environmental nonprofits. Applications are due June 12, 2026.
