FRANKLIN, WI. The Wisconsin Civic Alliance (WMCA) today celebrated record engagement from Wisconsin’s Muslim community and a historic set of results in the 2026 midterm election.
WMCA’s sister organization, the Wisconsin Civic Foundation (WMCF), led a nonpartisan voter education effort over four weeks. Volunteers tabled at mosques statewide, from Green Bay, Oshkosh and Appleton to Madison and across Milwaukee. They shared early voting information, polling locations and registration guidance with more than 18,000 community members. WMCF also hosted four Party at the Polls cultural nights celebrating Burma, Somalia, Pakistan and Palestine, serving hundreds of community members.
WMCA hosted nine pop-up events near early voting sites across the state, from Oshkosh to Madison to the Milwaukee suburbs. Hundreds of voters attended the pop up events, and many were first-time voters. WMCA staff and volunteers held more than 1,000 one-on-one conversations and sent thousands of text messages to community members.
More than 25 candidates who completed WMCA’s endorsement questionnaire process won their races. Their wins contributed to a Democratic trifecta in Wisconsin state government. WMCA also welcomed the departure of Representatives Bryan Steil and Derrick Van Orden, whose records on the Muslim community were a central concern for WMCA members.
“Wisconsin Muslims showed up in force, and they made a difference,” said Fauzia Qureshi, Executive Director of WMCA. “Our community is not a footnote in Wisconsin politics. We are organized, we are voting, and we expect the leaders we helped elect to deliver.”
Nationally, the incoming Congress will include eight Muslim members, among them Senator-elect Abdul El-Sayed of Michigan. Two newly elected members, Darializa Avila-Chevalier of New York and Adam Hamawy of New Jersey, joined Wisconsin’s Muslim community earlier this year at the WMCF Gala. “We were honored to welcome Darializa Avila-Chevalier and Adam Hamawy to Wisconsin,” said Qureshi.
With a new legislature and new leadership in Madison, WMCA looks forward to partnering with elected officials on policies that strengthen every Wisconsin community.
