Wisconsin Right to Life urges Congress to defend the Hyde Amendment, which ensures that tax dollars are not used to fund abortion. We call on Congress to include Hyde protections in all federal spending and health care legislation.
Since passage in 1976, the Hyde Amendment is estimated to have saved over 2.6 million lives and continues to enjoy broad public support with a majority of Americans opposing taxpayer funding of abortion.
Last year, the Trump Administration reaffirmed its strong support of the Hyde Amendment in a statement, saying, “It is the policy of the United States, consistent with the Hyde Amendment, to end the forced use of Federal taxpayer dollars to fund or promote elective abortion.” We urge the Administration to uphold this stance and continue opposing taxpayer-funded abortion.
In response, Heather Weininger, Executive Director of Wisconsin Right to Life shared, “The Hyde Amendment reflects the will of millions of Americans who believe that taxpayer dollars should not fund abortion. For decades, this life-affirming and bipartisan policy has helped protect preborn children while respecting taxpayers; consciences. We urge Congress to uphold the Hyde Amendment and continue standing for the dignity and protection of our most vulnerable, preborn children.”
