MADISON, Wis. — Congressman Tom Tiffany has rubberstamped Washington Republicans’ extreme agenda that includes tariff-taxes that are squeezing farmers with higher operating costs while closing off export markets, gutting Medicaid in the “Big Ugly Bill,” and extending the war-of-choice in Iran that has raised fuel and fertilizer costs.

“MAGA extremist Congressman Tom Tiffany has decimated Wisconsin farms in Congress by supporting tariff-taxes and the war-of-choice with Iran that has sent fuel and fertilizer prices skyrocketing,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin spokesperson Emily Stuckey. “Congressman Tiffany has been selling out Wisconsin farmers at every turn and as governor he would do the same.”

In Wisconsin, many farmers already being squeezed by higher operating costs due to tariffs increasing fertilizer and equipment costs, have had to sell their products at lower prices, or were stuck paying for commercial storage to wait for higher prices. Since the start of 2025, Wisconsin farm bankruptcies have increased 700%, from just two in 2024 to 16 in 2025.

Read below for more on Congressman Tiffany’s costly policies that are hurting Wisconsin farmers:

  • Due to the war in Iran that Congressman Tiffany has repeatedly voted against ending, diesel prices hit a record high at $5.84 a gallon in Wisconsin, dramatically increasing  farmers’ costs to operate their machinery.
  • In late April, farmers saw a devastating spike in fertilizer costs as a major nitrogen-based fertilizer shot up to nearly $700 per ton from $455 before the war began. Some fertilizer prices were up 25%, forcing many farmers to make difficult choices of planting different crops or facing lower yields.
  • Beef producers have been forced to raise their prices because of increased transportation costs.
  • SNAP cuts have hurt rural families and also limited potential revenue for farmers.
  • The OBBB has been devastating to the rural healthcare centers farmers rely on, threatening the closures of three rural hospitals in Wisconsin.
  • Congressman Tiffany strongly supports tariffs and has said “I support them. I mean, tariffs have certainly had an impact.”
  • Congressman Tiffany even admitted tariffs would cause Wisconsinites pain, saying “there have been some people that have been hurt by the tariffs, there’s no doubt about it.”
  • Congressman Tiffany voted seven times to protect the tariffs that cost Wisconsin companies and consumers approximately $3.5 billion between March and December 2025.
  • Congressman Tiffany supported tariff-taxes even as Wisconsin farms struggled to afford equipment and fertilizer, and lost trading partners while farm bankruptcies skyrocketed, increasing 700% in 2025.
  • Nearly three months into the illegal war with Iran, Congressman Tiffany falsely claimed that he wanted to end the war that he even admitted is raising costs for Wisconsinites before voting — mere hours later — to allow the war to continue with no end in sight and, in turn, for gas prices to keep surging.
  • In January, Congressman Tiffany took a selfie in front of a Wisconsin gas station and told Wisconsinites that 2026 would be “the cheapest year for gas” in the past six years thanks to MAGA policies. The opposite has happened.
