WisDems: Lieutenant Governor candidate Sarah Godlewski visits La Crosse to hear how high gas and diesel prices are impacting seniors due to Congressman Tom Tiffany’s votes for the war in Iran

MADISON, Wis. — As Wisconsin continues to see record-setting gas and diesel price increases across the state as a result of MAGA Congressman Tom Tiffany’s five votes for Trump’s war-of-choice in Iran, candidate for Lieutenant Governor Sarah Godlewski is touring the state to hear how seniors in Wisconsin on fixed incomes are dealing with the higher prices. Meanwhile, Congressman Tiffany is trying to shirk responsibility and lie about his votes to continue the war.

WIZM:Lt. Gov. hopeful Godlewski discusses gas prices, health care at downtown La Crosse roundtable session

• A group of community leaders in La Crosse talked Tuesday with the Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor about the price of gas and other issues.
• Secretary of State Sarah Godlewski took part in a roundtable with a small group that included former Mayor John Medinger and state Assembly Rep. Jill Billings (D-La Crosse).
• Godlewski criticized the Republican nominee for governor, U.S. House Rep. Tom Tiffany (R-Minocqua) for not opposing the war with Iran, which is affecting the price of fuel. 
• She also said Democrats could manage the cost of health care if they become the majority party in Wisconsin. 
• “We’re seeing premiums in my hometown go from $700 a month to $2,700 a month,” Godlewski said of Eau Claire, Wis. “Representative Billings voted to stop that.”
• Godlewski also said the cost of gas and heating oil is a major concern for state residents and will be over the coming months. 
• She and governor candidate David Crowley want to repeal the state’s minimum markup law affecting gas. 
• “What the minimum markup law right now says is automatically, a gas station increases their floor price by nine per cent, no questions asked,” Godlewski said.
• She argued that by repealing the markup, “that would save right now at least 40 cents on unleaded and over 50 cents on diesel,” per gallon.
• While Godlewski was downtown, and also stopped in the WIZM studio for The Rick Solem show, her counterpart, Crowley, toured a farm near Baraboo.

• Wisconsin Secretary of State Sarah Godlewski made a campaign stop in La Crosse on Tuesday as she runs for lieutenant governor.
• Godlewski hosted a roundtable at Pearl Street Books, listening to western Wisconsin residents about day-to-day expenses. She quickly addressed how recent record-high gas prices have affected daily lives.
• Godlewski shared how the situation could be addressed.
• “One of the policies that David and I came up with is repealing the minimum markup law,” Godlewski said. “What the minimum markup law right now says automatically a gas station increases their floor price by nine percent, no questions asked. So David and I, by repealing that nine percent markup, that would save right now at least 40 cents on unleaded and over 50 cents on diesel.”
• Godlewski noted that she and David Crowley are focused on keeping affordability top of mind if elected. Additional plans include fully funding public schools and lowering property taxes.
