MADISON, Wis. — On January 1st, nearly 300,000 Wisconsinites faced sticker shock when they saw their health care costs skyrocket due to Republicans, including Derrick Van Orden, voting to end ACA funding. Retirees are even considering going back into the workforce because of their skyrocketing health care costs. Now, despite still stating he wants to repeal the ACA, Derrick Van Orden is desperately trying to rewrite his history.
“Derrick Van Orden has already raised health care costs for Wisconsinites; yesterday’s vote is nothing more than election year theatrics,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin spokesperson Philip Shulman. “Wisconsinites are already seeing their prices dramatically increase because Van Orden voted against continuing the tax credits when it mattered most. This is DC Derrick’s hopeless effort to salvage his campaign, but the people of WI-03 see this for what it is: a desperate attempt to cling to power in Washington.”
See below for more on Derrick Van Orden’s health care record:
- Derrick Van Orden was a key vote in passing the GOP’s Big Ugly Bill, which could rip health care away from over 32,000 of his constituents and put a rural hospital at risk of closing in his district.
- After voting for and celebrating these cuts, Van Orden tried to save face by lying, claiming that he secured additional funding for Wisconsin’s Medicaid program.
- Derrick Van Orden supports the full repeal of the Affordable Care Act, which would threaten affordable health insurance coverage for over 313,000 Wisconsinites who are currently enrolled in an ACA insurance plan.
- Van Orden’s campaign website once called for “the last vestiges of the disastrous Obamacare” to be removed.
- Van Orden voted in favor of the Limit, Save, Grow Act, which would have limited health care access for 116,600 veterans.
