MADISON, Wis. — Last week, the Chair of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, Devin Remiker, spoke with reporters about how Democrats from across the state are not taking a beat after Justice-elect Chris Taylor’s massive 20 point win and are gearing up to defeat Republicans in November. While Wisconsin Republicans like Tom Tiffany and Derrick Van Orden apologize for their embarrassing defeat – Tom Tiffany even admitting, “We got our butts kicked” – Democrats are fired up to win a blue trifecta.

WORT: Spring election postmortem with WisDems Chair Devin Remiker
WisDems Chair Devin Remiker: “Right now voters are fed up with Donald Trump and Republican enablers like Tom Tiffany that have gone along with his agenda that has kicked working people in the teeth time and time again. We have seen just a surge in support amongst Independents who are willing to vote against him, with only 26% of Independents approving of the job that President Trump is doing right now, and Democrats who are fired up. We saw well in advance, and certainly on election day, that Democrats are enthused, but alongside them are Independents and even some conservatives who are sick and tired of Donald Trump and ready to vote Republicans out in November.”
Cap Times: Opinion | Democrats are poised for November after Supreme Court win

I asked Remiker to talk about efforts to unseat U.S. Rep. Derrick Van Orden, the 3rd District Republican who eked out a win in the 2024 election with a 51.4% to 48.6% margin. I noted the absence of attack ads at this point. He said that the current efforts are directed at conversations with voters.
“We talked to thousands upon thousands of people in the 3rd Congressional District, not just about the court race but about the issues that are on their minds,” he said. “And I will say that the number one issue on voters’ minds far and away is cost of living and the economy.”
Asked whether economic issues or protecting democracy would receive highest priority, Remiker put it this way: “I view it as a as a three-part thing, the fight for working people to make everyday life more affordable, defending our fundamental rights and freedoms, which are more endangered than ever before, and protecting our democracy, which is under constant assault from Donald Trump.”
Civic Media: Wisconsin Democrat Conversations with Devin Remiker
WisDems Chair Devin Remiker: “We only have 84 days between the primary and the general election because we don’t anoint our nominee like the Republican party did with Tom Tiffany, who is going to be a terrible general election candidate, but just happened to be with the beauty pageant for Trump’s endorsement. But that ability for us to be the [unifying] umbrella for everyone that was in this contest, and work together for success in November, it is going to help deliver us victory.”
