MADISON, Wis. — This summer, many Wisconsinites’ grills will remain closed and coolers dusty in garages because of the stark increase in grocery prices as a result of Republicans’ and the Trump administration’s illegal war with Iran. Every member of the Wisconsin Republican congressional delegation has rubber-stamped this illegal war despite their constituents’ increasing pleas to lower costs.
“Wisconsin Republicans like Derrick Van Orden and Bryan Steil have no problem prolonging the Trump administration’s reckless actions abroad even as it means adding on to the months-long suffering for Wisconsinites,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin spokesperson Rachel La Due. “Enjoying a beautiful summertime barbecue is no longer in the cards for many Wisconsinites who can barely afford pantry staples or even gas to get to the grocery store.”
Summertime barbecue staples have increased across the board in comparison to last year: beef is 12.1% more expensive, fruit and vegetables 7.5% more expensive and predicted to increase 4.8%, and the cost for soda and lemonade have increased by 5.6%.
