MADISON, Wis. — Last night, Donald Trump signed an executive order that allows unconstitutional and unprecedented voter suppression efforts in the United States. The Trump administration’s crackdown on mail-in voting not only disenfranchises Wisconsin voters but also is an extraordinary overreach of the federal government into states’ constitutional rights to oversee their own elections.
“In Wisconsin, Democrats will fight tooth and nail for the right of citizens to vote in free and fair elections, which are now more crucial than ever—Trump’s endorsed lackey for governor, Tom Tiffany, is also an election denier who just last week said he would oppose mail-in voting despite voting absentee a dozen times,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin spokesperson Emily Stuckey. “Without a doubt, Tiffany would gladly hand over the keys to the castle and allow Trump’s federal overreach to undermine our elections here in Wisconsin.”
Tom Tiffany’s 2020 Election-Denialism Record:
- Tom Tiffany was the lone Wisconsin Republican to sign on to the Texas amicus brief that sued four battleground states and would have overturned the 2020 election.
- Tom Tiffany voted to overturn President Biden’s victory in Pennsylvania and Arizona and said that he would have voted to overturn Wisconsin’s election results if a vote had been held. This objection to certifying the votes from Pennsylvania came after the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.
- Ahead of the violent January 6th riots, Tom Tiffany publicly announced he intended to object to Wisconsin’s electoral results and baselessly accused election officials of wrongdoing.
- Tiffany maintains that he has no regrets about contesting the election.
- As recently as April 2023, Tom Tiffany refused to acknowledge that President Biden won the 2020 election.
