MADISON, Wis. — Today, Senator Brad Pfaff joined Representative Jill Billings and Representative Tara Johnson to discuss how Congressman Tom Tiffany has made life more expensive for working Wisconsinites. Under the MAGA policies Congressman Tiffany has rubber-stamped like the Big Ugly Bill, inflation has skyrocketed, Wisconsinites’ budgets are tighter and healthcare costs are out of control. Families, seniors and working folks are struggling to keep up with everyday costs as Tiffany’s policies continue to cause chaos and raise prices.

Watch the press conference here and see what speakers had to say, in part, below:

Senator Brad Pfaff: “In the summer of 2025 Tom Tiffany voted to make it harder for fellow Wisconsinites to have access to affordable healthcare. To be specific, less people in our state signed up for the Affordable Care Act after passage of the one big beautiful bill in the summer of 2025. On top of that, thousands of Wisconsinites are at risk of losing Medicaid as a result of his vote in the summer of 2025. […] These cuts threaten Wisconsin’s rural healthcare. We already know that Wisconsin’s rural hospitals, which are very important to healthcare for the people of this state– as well as for local economies– they are on a razor’s edge when it comes to the profitability, and quite frankly, staying in business. That vote last summer, when it came to healthcare, it causes real problems when it comes to rural healthcare affordability, as well as accessibility. Sadly when it comes to the issue of affordability, Tom Tiffany has been quoted on the record as saying, quote: “It’s just a buzzword.” Just a buzzword. I will say this: Small businesses, family farmers, the self-employed, the elderly, and the children here in Western Wisconsin, and in the state of Wisconsin, they will pay the price as a result of the recklessness of Tom Tiffany’s vote last summer in 2025.”

Representative Jill Billings: “Congressman Tom Tiffany and Donald Trump are always trying to convince folks how great their policies are. Wisconsinites know the reality. D.C. politicians like Tom Tiffany– who support MAGA policies – are making life more expensive. A new report came out just last month that said inflation has hit a three year high. That means working Wisconsinites are working just as hard for dollars that don’t go as far. The same paycheck two years ago covers less, which means folks can’t provide for themselves or their families the same way. It also means that businesses have higher input costs and have to raise prices on consumers to make up the difference. It means that it’s more expensive for farmers to plant crops, and with tariff taxes cutting profits, it means that they don’t make as much when they sell. Last year, farm bankruptcies shot up in Wisconsin, and this year nearly a dozen Wisconsin businesses sued the Trump administration to recoup losses from tariffs, the same tariffs that Congressman Tom Tiffany voted seven times to protect. Wisconsinites face huge spikes in gas prices this year as a result of the war in Iran, which went on for far too long, and that was in part due to support from Tom Tiffany. It will take weeks or months for prices to come back to pre-war levels, and other industries like shipping, travel, and retail will see high costs for months to come.”

Representative Tara Johnson: “So, when we are talking to our constituents and hearing all these concerns and anxiety and fear, and I’m sure some of those conversations, I know this is true for me, are tear-filled conversations, like genuinely, especially seniors who are concerned that a guy like Tom Tiffany, as a member of Congress, has been pushing to raise the age for Social Security. Like that is very concerning to our constituents, and so we, we are here today really to say that, as Representative Billings mentioned, there is an alternative that the fear and anxiety and concern is justified because inflation is out of control, and the hope is, and the option, the alternative is to reject those policies and support and elect individuals who share your values. Who don’t think that Social Security age should be raised, who don’t think that tariffs should be imposed, who think that everyone should have access to affordable healthcare, and that’s really our message today, is the contrast between what Tom Tiffany has consistently been doing for the long, long time that he’s been in office, hurting Wisconsinites, taking votes that affect our pockets and our way of life and our quality of life. There is an alternative to that, and we are here to say that not only at the state level will we continue to work hard as Democrats to make sure that your quality of life is better and that costs are lowered, but there is an alternative to Tom Tiffany in the November election, and we encourage people to look at that.”
