[Madison, Wisconsin]: Directly impacted people, families of incarcerated people, faith leaders, and community advocates are coming together for a rally and press conference on Wednesday, July 15 from 11 AM – 12 PM outside the Wisconsin Department of Corrections (DOC) office, located at 3099 E. Washington Ave., Madison, WI 53704.
Wisconsin communities flourish when we prioritize investments in human dignity, health, and public safety. Every person deserves a chance to be in a safe environment that fosters well-being. Wisconsin’s prisons are currently facing a severe overcrowding crisis that is creating unsafe conditions for both incarcerated people and people who work in the prisons.
This powerful event will offer common sense solutions to reduce overcrowding and improve conditions of confinement that can be implemented by the Department of Corrections and elected officials. People who have been impacted by the prison system will offer solutions to advance dignity for incarcerated women, end torture in prisons, end needless incarceration due to alleged technical parole violations, and create independent oversight of the DOC.
We will call on policymakers to implement these long overdue changes and urge community members to get involved with civic engagement. We invite all who believe in real safety and justice to stand with us.
