MILWAUKEE – The towering wood letters that spell out BRONZEVILLE are in place along W. North Ave. (near N. 5th St.), and the public will again get a chance to decorate them during the Sunday, August 7 Bronzeville Cultural & Arts Festival (from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.)
““People look forward to seeing the letters go up, and I am pleased that they are once again overlooking the intersection of 5th and North,” said Alderwoman Coggs. “I invite residents and families to show off their art skills on August 7th while enjoying the fun at the Bronzeville Cultural & Arts Festival.”

Beautification is important to all of us and we know it makes environments more inviting, because we can come together and change the way we live in our community,” said Supervisor Coggs-Jones. “By adding art, culture and beautification; we can change the minds of our community to keep it clean and beautiful. The huge letters, taller than the average adult, are works of art paying homage to the rich history of artists who lived and currently reside in Bronzeville.
County Supervisor Priscilla E. Coggs-Jones will begin getting paint ready at the site tomorrow – Saturday, July 30 – and will paint parts of the letters daily from 6 to 8 p.m. starting Monday (August 1) through Thursday (August 4).
As part of the festival on Sunday, August 7, residents will have a chance to show off their artistic sides by putting brushes to the wood letters.
The 11th annual Bronzeville Week (August 6 – 13, 2022) will be a mix of family-friendly and diverse virtual and in-person activities showcasing Milwaukee’s African-American Cultural and Entertainment district’s historically rich tradition in arts, culture and commerce.
