OAK CREEK, WI – On Saturday, Congressman Bryan Steil (WI-01) announced Ryannah Glassen from Union Grove High School as the 2023 Artistic Discovery Contest winner. Ryannah’s self-portrait will be displayed in the United States Capitol for one year. Ryannah is a senior at Union Grove High School.

“Congratulations Ryannah on winning this year’s Art Competition. Your self-portrait will hang in the halls of the United States Capitol. Each year, I am impressed with Wisconsin’s First District students’ talent in the Artistic Discovery Competition. Thank you to each of the judges and students who submitted art for this year’s contest,” said Steil.

The Artistic Discovery Competition Presentation took place at the Milwaukee Area Technical College in Oak Creek. 15 high school students submitted entries from 6 different high schools in Wisconsin’s First District.
Glassen said “I demonstrated 2D drawing skills such as value, proportion, and contrast by layering and blending with black and white conte crayon.”

Each spring, a nationwide high school arts competition is sponsored by the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives. The Artistic Discovery Contest is an opportunity to recognize and encourage the artistic talent in the nation and our district.
