MADISON—Wisconsin Women in Government, a bipartisan organization made up of women in public service positions and government-related jobs, would like to announce a change to the previously scheduled keynote speaker for the Annual Scholarship & Recognition GALA, Growing Alliances in Leadership & Advocacy, a fundraiser and award ceremony.
We regret to inform you that, due to unforeseen circumstances, renowned speechwriter and author Sarah Hurwitz cannot join us for the Wisconsin Women in Government Gala. We recognize the significance of this event and remain dedicated to providing you with an inspiring and engaging experience.
We are pleased to announce that Lt. Colonel Olga Custodia, USAF (Retired), America’s First Latina Fighter Pilot, STEM Advocate, and author, will be our keynote speaker. Lt. Colonel Custodio has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to achieving results that inspire others and drive positive change.
The first Latina to complete U.S. Air Force Undergraduate Pilot Training and graduate in the top 5% of her class (of 48) with a fighter qualification to fly the T-38 as an instructor pilot, Lt. Colonel Olga E. Custodio points to three principles that have helped her become successful in a profession dominated by men: overcoming self-doubt, staying open to possibilities, and seeing herself as an equal.
By pioneering many firsts during her career, Lt. Colonel Custodia has shattered stereotypes and served as a powerful role model for those aspiring to become pilots. By breaking barriers and overcoming challenges as a woman in a male-dominated profession throughout her career, Lt. Colonel Custodio has gained essential life insights and perspectives that she shares with everyone, especially women working to achieve their dreams.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support. We look forward to an inspiring evening with you.
The Annual Scholarship & Recognition GALA, Growing Alliances in Leadership & Advocacy, event will be held April 30, 2025, at Monona Terrace in Madison. For more information, please visit wiscwomeningovernment.org/events.
